Blind Date
She wasn't expecting a message to be waiting for her when she got home. Judith had told her she had a call asking if she would like to go out to lunch the next day with a friend's friend. It sounded like a date and she and Judith giggled over a late meal while wondering what the morning would bring. She almost said no, but Judith prodded at her. Gloria hadn't been on a date since they stopped dating almost a year ago.
This was definitely a set up and when the morning came she and Judith spent the morning like teenage girls in the small university sponsored apartment they shared. Eventually, Judith convinced Gloria to wear one of Judith's flashier dresses. It was a date after all where she was going to be picked up in a limo. That was exciting.
They sat together later in the day, sipping coffee while they waited for the mystery date to arrive. Like all young women, speculating who the flamboyant person she had met a few weeks earlier might be sending to her.

Then she falls silent, worried, before she can go on. "I like learning in general. There's so much in the world to know and, well, I think most of it is important."

Weird wasn't sure what to make of it all but didn't want to judge. In fact, it was rather interesting to have an animal that wasn't a cat or a dog. A baboon though? How would you even go about training such a wild animal? Unless it was domesticated from a young age. Weird wasn't a zoologist so had no idea about that.
"Yeah, there is a lot to learn. Does he like bananas your baboon?"
It was a valid question.

She spoke about Papi the way most people did about their dogs or cats. Gloria adored him.
"Baboons don't eat bananas. The eat greens, seeds, roots."
no subject
Weird knew he was no expert with animals so just nodded. Papi sounded an interesting creature and he wondered when Gloria would introduce him to the bassist. Seeds and roots? Weird would make sure to bring some so that Papi could perhaps eat out of his hand? He wanted to get used to Gloria's pet so that the baboon became more familiar with Weird.
"You learn something new everyday."
He smiled, kissing her cheek softly.

Gloria leaned into the kiss. She couldn't help but feel happy here. It was calm and the company was good. "If you want to meet him, I can introduce you when you drop me off after dinner."
no subject
Weird shrugged and then started to smile, clearly amused at the prospect of having his food stolen by a baboon. Gloria's baboon. If he were to get used to the bassist then Weird would allow Papi to get friendly with his new guest. Animals often needed time to warm up to a new presence.
"I'd like that."
He nodded and then noticed the waiter coming over with their plates of food. Filling both glasses back up with wine, he kissed Gloria's cheek gently and then arranged his napkin over his lap.

She's about to say more when she sees the food coming. While she has had a lot of homecooked food Gloria hasn't had much time to go out to anywhere nicer than a diner.
"It looks delicious." She says a little excited and leaning in to give Weird a quick peck on the cheek.
no subject
Weird just offered her a slightly awkward smile because he wasn't familiar with animals and especially not baboons. Yet, Papi was hers and that made it all the special that he was hers and not just some zoo pet. The food did look and smell good though. Waiting for her to start, Weird nodded.
"It does smell good."
The peck on the cheek got a soft blush from the bassist.

People thought she was crazy for trying to teach a baboon but so far it was going well.
"It does." She smiles at that blush. His shyness was really attractive. The she looked to the food realizing just how hungry she was, especially now because it all smelled so good.

Weird's parents never had any animals back in their family home but the bassist wondered if he would ever get a pet of his own one day since he'd always liked dogs. Gloria had Papi so he wondered how a dog and a baboon would interact with one another. It was a curious thought.
"This is nice. The food and being in your company."
He offered her a fond smile and caressed her hand before picking up his knife and fork and tucking into his food. It was really good.

She turned to her food and took a bite, chewing gratefully before speaking. "The food is delicious."
She squeezed his hand and blushed. "I hope to be in your company again. This is a nice date."

Weird could see through bullies and took no notice of them. If they riled him up too much he'd offer them a fist to the face. The bassist wasn't afraid to belt someone around the face if they threatened him or were rude to him or his friends. This made him a good protector for the band and wouldn't hesitate throwing a punch or two with Mick to defend Ziggy.
"Yes, it is. I don't usually eat out much but being with you makes it even more special."
The date was nice and Weird hoped they could see each other more frequently as time went on and they met up on tour dates.
no subject
"I don't eat out often because I'm usually too busy or forget to eat." She was enjoying herself though and hoped the bassist would remind her more often.
no subject
Weird knew enough about such people back at school and even now in the rock star world there were those who sought to poke and pry into their business. The media could be relentless and cruel. Nodding gently, he stroked her hand with his own, squeezing it softly.
"You forget to eat? I'll have to make sure that doesn't happen since I want to care for you."
no subject
She shrugged at the comment while taking a bite of her food. "Don't you get so involved in something that you forget, not all the time but sometimes?"
no subject
Weird adamant in his words as Ziggy was the symbol of freedom and expression and this had rubbed off on the bassist and indeed all of the Spiders. It was their whole existence as a band to show the world anyone could be anyone and those that didn't like it could fuck off.
"All the time. Usually, it's my bass playing. I forget the time and end up playing late into the night sometimes."
no subject
Not that she cared what he thought but the train of thinking she was on brought humor with it.
"Don't ever come to play at my lab, we'll both end up lost forever." She smiles while taking another bite. "Music has always made me focus more on what I am working on."
no subject
Weird was serious about protecting Gloria and making sure she wasn't going to be subject to abuse by her father. Verbal insults about how she shouldn't be hanging around with rock stars and the like.
"I wouldn't mind being lost forever with you."
The bassist smiled shyly and squeezed her hand.

The compliment though, she looks down, blushing across the cheeks before her dark curls can cover her face. She does squeeze his hand in return giggling quietly and pushing her curls back before she gives Weird a peck on the cheek. "You're a sweet man."
